Padraic is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, holding Bachelor and Masters degrees in Engineering from Trinity College Dublin. He joined the parent company - Buro Happold in 1978, became a Director in 1992 taking on responsibility for the Middle East and Asia, before returning to UK in 1996 when he became Managing Partner. He held this key role until 2005 after which he became the practice’s International Director.

In 2005, he established Happold Consulting which provides strategic consulting in the built environment sector. Padraic has played leading roles in large scale planning, infrastructure, transport and environment projects. He lectures on planning at Harvard University and has co-founded a Working Group on Sustainable Cities at Harvard University.

Padraic has been President of Europengineers since May 2006.
