Organisational Development

A fundamental challenge for organisations today is how to deliver improved performance with fewer resources in a rapidly changing and increasingly complex environment.

Organisations must be vibrant productive places to work where people want to deliver their best and be valued in return. The global financial crisis has focused organisations on necessary change, but there is still a long way to go.

It is often easier to start fundamental changes when you have a fresh perspective. Organisations are often so enwrapped with their own workings that they cannot see the wood for the trees. At Happold Consulting we work with our clients to address the root level challenges that affect their work.

All great organisations continuously strive to reinvent themselves. Leadership is faced with tough realities where there is insufficient time to consider the future, yet they are consistently judged on today’s results. The build up of bureaucracies is inevitable and, in fact, necessary for the successful running of a big business, but they must evolve in-line with the organisation as a whole. Adding new systems and processes is always easier than changing or abandoning old ones, but is not always the right approach.

Happold Consulting works with organisations from within, in practical ways, to help them deliver their mandate. At Happold Consulting, we help our clients to assess their role and function, purpose, current core processes and systems in addition to their support functions. We are able to take best practice and make it bespoke to suit the organisations’ own circumstances.

Organisational development cannot work with a “big bang” approach. It needs to be progressive and relevant to the daily operations of people and needs to be sustained and supported from top level management.

Services include:

  • Assessment of organisational culture and values

  • Review of organisational, divisional, team and individual development needs and organisational structure

Perched on the eastern edge of New York City, the Jamaica Bay parklands cover more than 10,000 acres of land surrounding one of the most bio-diverse urban estuaries on the Atlantic seaboard. Historically, sections of the parklands have been separately owned and managed by the federal National Park Service (NPS) and the city Department of Parks, with limited collaboration in land management and provision of services. Numerous other organizations ranging from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to non-profit land trusts are involved in advocacy for, and conservation of, various sections of the parklands.

Detroit’s economic and population decline, driven by changes in the US auto and wider manufacturing industry, is a globally recognized story - as are the social, employment and urban consequences for those who remain in the city. Less well known is the tangible economic resurgence that has already started in the city.: new New sectors of the economy are emerging that provide job opportunities for Detroiters and attract new residents to the city. This resurgence is fragile – it will happen against the backdrop of a continued fall in the population until at least 2020 and highly constrained city budgets. Reorganizing the city’s systems and healing the environment are critical to facilitating these changes. The city’s government, civic and business leaders, and its residents face big decisions regarding how best to respond to the challenge of providing more effective systems at reduced costs and an enhanced environment for the evolving city.
