The Sakanela district of Tbilisi, Georgia occupies a key location at the confluence of three distinct districts in the heart of the city. In collaboration with Buro Happold Germany and Graft Architects, Happold Consulting was commissioned by Development Solutions to prepare an outline masterplan to inform the development and subsequent design of the site. The final masterplan accommodated a number of challenges including utilising the advantages of the site's strategic location whilst accommodating extreme topography, historical significance, transport, access and parking needs, utilities and contamination, and uncertainty around land acquisition.
