Happold Consulting has been approached to define a concept for a desert eco-city and the elements required to achieve this.  Conscious of the necessity to use natural resources more sustainably in this region, current low-quality housing provision, and taking into account a growing young working population, we established principles of Affordability, Resource-Efficiency and Quality of Offer, to guide the Vision for this eco-city.

Happold Consulting’s and the client’s joint aspiration was to create a self-sufficient and self-contained city with minimal strain on existing resources, as well as finding solutions to resolve the myriad issues facing conurbations in this region. After having undertaken an initial baseline data acquisition and evaluation, Happold Consulting conducted a detailed risk analysis around issues of environment, affordability, financial viability, and socio-economics using an in-house developed model with defined and measurable objectives.

Happold Consulting provided the client with a Vision Document which defined the concept for the eco-city, various graphic-rich prospectus documents, to be used to communicate the concept to potential investors, tenants, residents and collaborators, as well as a detailed Feasibility Study and Financial Viability Model, in order to enable the client to take informed decisions on this complex and innovative project.
